MACPO’S Position on Employment of Case Aide, Assistant Probation Officer, or Similar Positions
Background As a result of proposed legislation, a workgroup of MACPO members met to review the existing practices for the use of case aides in CPO counties. After reviewing information supplied by the various Directors, the workgroup decided to combine the position descriptions for existing Case Aide, Assistant Probation Officer, and other similar positions. They could then focus on the differences between this combined group and appointed Probation Officers in the key areas of Minimum Education Requirements, Independence of Action / Level of Decision Making, and Types of Assigned Cases. It was believed that by this process, a clear delineation between appointed probation officers and the existing case aide, assistant probation officer, and similar positions could be determined.
